New to Newcastle? Get to know the city in more detail, by exploring the hidden queer histories of Newcastle. These free walking tours will engage, enlighten and make you smile!
Fabulous!
It’s quirky, it’s cruisy, it’s best done in flats.
The tour shares undisputed facts with a peppering of fiction to imagine what queer life in the North East might have been like from the 16th to the 21st centuries.
Fabulous! the LGBTQIA+ History Walk is a guided walk around the centre of Newcastle City. The walk spans history from the 16th Century to the late 20th Century. Just a few of highlights are:
Discovering the incredible Ethel Williams and her ‘wife’ Frances Hardcastle
Hearing how Gateshead was the home of an Edwardian trans-activist
Learning how Durham was the first place in Britain to elect an out gay Councillor
…and much more.
